What is Whole Health Dentistry?
Let’s say you become ill and decide to go to your doctor for care. And let’s say that you are treated and you recover. That’s just great! But what if you went to your doctor when you were NOT ill and you learned how NOT to get sick? That would be even better! That’s what we call “Wellness Care” or “Whole Mouth Care.” We can certainly get your teeth and gums healthy and repair any damage just like any dental office can and has done in the past. But Arlington Smile Center goes a step further and shows you how to avoid dental problems before they become problems. We start with a very thorough examination, imagining that we see smoke and we are trying to get to the smoke before we see the flames and ideally recognize when we might see smoke and prevent it from ever getting hot.
Most of our patients say they’ve never had such an extensive examination of their entire mouth, let alone their teeth. If you wish this thorough of an exam, we assess whether you have tight facial extraoral and/or tight intraoral muscles that may lead to jaw joint issues. We also check to see if you have a strong tongue- or lip-tie that might be linked to many symptoms you did not know were connected to your mouth. These can include head and neck tension, nasal congestion, sleep apnea, migraines, and even digestion. We determine your risk for heart attack, Alzheimer’s disease, and stroke. We examine your bite and how your teeth come together, and we never forget to look for oral cancer, gum disease, signs of wear on the teeth, and any problem that you might encounter at a later date. We want to head off any problems and make your teeth and gums healthier so you will be spending less time in the dental chair. The best amount of dentistry is the least amount of dentistry!
