ORAL CANCER
WE ARE PROVIDING A NEW WEAPON TO HELPS US FIGHT BACK AGAINST
ORAL CANCER

According to the American Cancer Society, about 28,500 new cases of oral cancer and 6,100 deaths from oral cancer are expected in 2009.  Additionally, the death rate for oral cancer is higher than that of cervical cancer, Hodgkin's lymphoma, laryngeal cancer, cancer of the testes, endocrine system cancers and melanoma.

What's more, certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV), the virus commonly associated with cervical cancer, have been linked to oral cancer.  HPV has caused an increase of cases in young, non-smoking individuals with low levels of alcohol consumption, a group that, until recently, had a low rate of oral cancer incidence.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DETECTION

When it comes to combating oral cancer, early detection of oral lesions is a key factor.  While most oral lesions are benign, there are some lesions that could lead to cancer, or may already be cancerous.  The traditional method of detection is a visual and physical examination of the oral cavity, throat, and neck.  This method can be effective, but oftentimes oral cancer doesn't show symptoms until later stages, when it's harder to treat.

THE SOLUTION

With revolutionary VELscope powered by Sapphire, we can detect lesions before they produce any pain or symptoms.  It can help us better distinguish the full size and extent of lesions.  In addition, this innovative tool helps oral surgeons more accurately remove the cancerous cells so that they don't potentially miss anything.

The VELscope powered by Sapphire is not just an oral cancer detection tool.  It can help us uncover a variety of disease processes as well as give patients the peace of mind that there is nothing wrong.

The exam is quick and painless, and the exam may even be covered by insurance (check with your insurance company).  The exam can be done quickly during a regular check-up and is extremely minimally invasive.

It's important to get screen regularly with the most advanced technology to ensure the most accurate diagnosis.

THE ORAL CANCER DEATH RATE IS HIGH DUE TO LATE DISCOVERY
